About the Work
This artwork is based on the motif of the three Fates—the sisters depicted in Greek mythology. Concepts like the past, present, and future are illusions crafted by humanity; the flow of time is not continuous but consists merely of fragments.
The mind, or spirit, can take a bird’s-eye view of these temporal concepts, while the body—the flesh—lives within a finite stream of time. Overseeing the interaction of these two coexisting forms is the soul. Even if one could foresee their own destiny, resistance is meaningless when faced with the unstoppable flow of a great river. For humans, fully assimilating with the soul and attempting to steer the rudder of fate in advance is generally forbidden. Such actions come with a price, requiring an appropriate offering in accordance with the laws of the universe.
However, every person is born with the promise of leading this world to happiness and, above all, attaining their own happiness. At times, it may be hard to believe this. There may be moments when we resent the gods. Yet, the sun continues to shine upon this planet as always, the moon quietly illuminates the darkness of night, and there are abundant riches on this earth.
No matter what fate we follow, the path we walk is illuminated far and wide, and the happiness or even the suffering we experience along the way is a joy to the soul. All beings continue to receive the blessings and great benevolence of the gods.
